Leisure Support Services 2005 Review

The first major milestone of the year was the start-up of the Brit Oval contract. With the opening of the brand new OCS Stand at the Vauxhall End and a busy cricket season including several important internationals we had to ensure that we were well prepared for what lay ahead. The contract with the Brit Oval includes event maintenance, event cleaning, year round security, cleaning, window cleaning, washroom services, maintenance and much more. The Surrey County Cricket Club staff have been impressed with the improvements made since our team started operating in February, especially at the big events such as the one-day internationals.

In May at the Devon County Show, HRH Prince Charles, the Show's Patron made a visit with Camilla. Covering 93 acres, with around 100,000 visitors each year and some 1000 trade stands, it is one of the largest events on the County Show Calendar. The Leisure Support Services Team is proud to be entrusted with servicing the event.

July saw the return of The Open Championship to the home of golf, St Andrews. Our event team travelled up to Scotland and delivered yet again a fantastic service to a delighted client. The 2005 Open Championship will be remembered for the victorious Tiger Woods, claiming yet another major trophy, and an emotional farewell of the legendary, Jack Nicklaus.

The highlight of the summer's calendar was Michael Vaughan leading his England teammates to Triumph in the Ashes in the final Test at the Brit Oval for the first time since 1987. With a capacity crowd for each of the five days, our team delivered consistently high standards in tight and demanding time scales.

In Autumn we also saw the mobilisation of The Old Royal Naval College, a world heritage site described by UNESCO as being of 'outstanding universal value'. Its naval links go back to the time where Lord Nelson laid in state in the 'Painted Hall' after returning from victory over Napoleon. The year's Trafalgar 200 Celebrations came to a head, when dignitaries and Royals assembled to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar at the Old Royal Naval College facilities meticulously prepared by our team.

All in all, it has been a fantastic year for the team, gaining some important contracts and really making waves in the Sport and Leisure Market. As we move into the New Year we will build on the successes of last year and consolidate our position as a market leader in the sport and leisure support service market delivering true value for money to our portfolio of valued customers.
